My granddaughter Lily is a sweet, bubbly, caring young lady who was diagnosed in 2005 with anaphylactic food allergies before her first birthday. As she grew we discovered that she was not only allergic to dairy and eggs but fish and kiwi too. When we would shop we would put on the list if the item was "Lily Safe" so that's how I came up with the name and logo for Lily Safe Foods.
Over the years I would create recipes for meals that she could enjoy that were safe for her but whenever we visited friends or went on a trip it took a lot to get all of her food ready.
Commercially, the only meals currently available for people with food allergies are ones that only excluded one or two of the top ten allergens noted by Anaphylaxis Canada which are eggs, dairy, wheat, soy, fish, shellfish, mustard, sesame, tree nuts and peanuts. However, since many people like Lily have multiple food allergies those meals would not be a safe option. The fact that we would have to keep the meals refrigerated or frozen only added to the difficulty.
It became clear early in Lily's life that there was, and continues to be, nothing on the market that offers people with multiple food allergies a safe, convenient, healthy, ready to eat meal option. That is how the idea of Lily Safe Foods came to be.
